Creating a Vision Board
You’re probably familiar with creating a vision board as a tool for keeping your dreams and goals in mind. But did you know that you can use a vision board in a variety of ways, depending on your needs? In fact, you might even want to have more than one vision board, to keep your dreams for the various areas of your life and business clear.
Have you created your vision board yet?
Creating a vision board serves many purposes.
- Vision boards can help to manifest and bring your dreams to life.
- There is power in seeing your vision (dream).
- Making your vision evident gives you a clear direction.
- There is actually self-healing in creating a vision board and watching it come to fruition.
If you’re unfamiliar with what vision boards are, I’m here to help explain.
My Personal Experience
I made my first vision board over 20 years ago. I thought it was silly at first but there is something empowering about taking your goals and breathing life into them. Finding images, writing down inspirational quotes, bible verses or other messages gives you focus.
You can call it Karma or Law of Attraction but whatever and whenever you speak or envision something, you are emitting a powerful frequency into the Universe. Your vision board should make it clear how you want to feel. Thereby, creating that law of attraction.
Rules of Creating a Vision Board
There are no hard or fast rules to something as empowering as creating a vision board, EXCEPT that it’s your ideas, your dreams, and your goals. You can create one big board for all the areas of your life, or you can create mini boards for each area of your life. You can display for all to see or keep it in your closet for your eyes only.
Pro tip: It’s better if, at least, you can see it every day.
Purpose of Creating a Vision Board
The purpose of the activity is to bring everything in your mind to life. Your vision board becomes a living instrument that has positive effects. You might, for instance, have a vision board for your wedding, or you could have a vision board for your child or the birth of your baby.
Host a Vision Board Party
If you’re still unsure about building your vision board, try hosting a social event with some of your friends, family or small group. You could keep it a themed vision board event. How about a Vision Board Romance Bachelorette party?
Or a Life after 60 Vision Board Party. Maybe you could host a “My Life after High School” for your graduate (and friends) and let them build their first Vision Boards.
Business Planning
This vision board is where you’ll keep track of why and how you do what you do. You started your business for a reason—your “why.” But somewhere along the way, many of us lose sight of this goal.
A business planning vision board can help keep us on track.
On it, you’ll keep images that represent your ideal business, such as working from the beach, speaking in front of a large crowd, achieving bestseller status with your latest book, or even a big fancy office if that’s your thing.
Life Goals
Where do you want to be in five, ten, or twenty years? That’s not just a question from a bad job interview, it’s a critical consideration for anyone who wants to live a life of purpose and meaning, and a vision board is the perfect tool for staying on track.
In fact, this vision board—like all of them—is in a constant state of change. As your life goals change and grow, so will your vision board. Maybe you no longer want to live in Paris. That’s ok. Replace the city of lights with a relaxing mountaintop retreat if that’s your thing.
But do keep your life goals vision board updated and refer to it each time you have to make a significant decision. It will help clarify the direction you need to take to achieve your life’s dreams.
Vacation Planning
Are you heading off on an epic vacation with the family? Don’t leave your journey to chance. Capture all your “must see” destinations on a vision board, so you don’t miss anything.
Moreover, invite your kids and spouse to join you to create a fun planning tool the entire family can use. The kids will be excited about your trip, and you’ll be sure everyone gets to see and do everything they love to do. By planning, you’ll ensure everyone has the epic vacation of their dreams.
Home Buying
Pinterest has built an entire business around what amounts to a digital vision board—much of it devoted to home décor. If you’re in the market for a new home, or merely remodeling the one you have, then a vision board is a great way to organize your plans.
Cut photos of the style of home you love, color combos to try, landscaping ideas, and anything else that strikes your fancy. Keeping your home-buying vision board close at hand will save you time in your search by reminding you the type of home you desire.
To Sum it up
As you can see there are many ideas and for different reasons for your vision board. Have you created a board yet this year? You can download the resource guide, worksheet, and checklist to help you get started.
