Pet-Friendly Technology

You probably have heard or already have most of these very sophisticated and highly technologically advanced products for your pet. There are virtual toys, automatic feeders, and wearable technology for keeping our pets safe, loved, and healthy.

According to American Pet Products Association, Americans spent $72 Billion in 2018 on the care of their pets. Food was $30 Billion and Veterinary care was $18 Billion. Supplies/OTC medications was $16 Billion. There’s a big demand for keeping our pets healthy.

Why make your home pet-friendly?

Pets are more than just animals. Pet parents have a different perspective when it comes to pets. Our four-legged companions become a part of the family. We want to give our pets the absolutely best in life.

Knowing how to make your home pet-friendly and secure will help your pets to have a good quality life. Keep the bad things away from your pets and give them a good and safe (and clean) environment. Being aware of toxic chemicals and dangerous house-plants is a simple place to start.

How to make a pet-friendly home.

We love our pets and want to create a pet-friendly home environment that is a safe and rewarding experience. Pet-proofing our homes to keep our pets safe is the same as child-proofing. Keep in mind that our pets are just curious adventurous creatures. Here are just a few basic tips to pet-proof the home.

  • Cover electric outlets and secure cords
  • Keep the toilet lid closed
  • Hide the trash or lock the lid on the trash can
  • Lock cabinets with child safety locks (esp. where the cleaning items are kept)
  • Use a pet gate
  • Keep the washer/dryer doors closed

Pet care tips.

Practicing responsible pet care will provide happy and healthy companions for a long time. Knowing that our pets don’t live as long as we would like them to is reason enough to get them regular visits to the veterinarian. Here is a list of essential pet care tips to follow.

  • Veterinarian Visits
  • Proper identification
  • Spay/Neuter
  • Healthy food and clean water
  • Good Hygiene – don’t forget their dental cleaning
  • Good training and socializing
  • Safe play toys and activities
  • Lots of exercise

What does pet-friendly technology mean?

Pet-friendly is a new catchy phrase that can have unusual meanings for different people or cities in many areas of our country. Some think that pet-friendly means a quality dog park is available. To others, pet-friendly means they like pets.

Pet-friendly should mean that your pets are fed, sheltered, have protection, and can be included in your activities. With the rise of pet-friendly awareness, many advances are being made to provide pets and families with pet-friendly technology.

There are video cameras and two-way audio radios to communicate with our pets when we are away from them. You have seen the automatic devices to clean the litter box or play catch with Fido. There are specialty gloves or vacuum attachments to keep your pet groomed.
